Anyone who’s tried out Honkai: Star Rail’s Ice Destruction character Strale knows how much of a difference he makes for F2P and paid rosters alike. His high single-target damage, easy rotation, and low investment requirements make him a go-to pick for everything from open world boss fights to endgame Memory of Chaos stages. I spent three months casually grinding to max out his Eidolons earlier this year, and I made a ton of avoidable mistakes along the way that wasted my time and Stellar Jade. If you’re wondering how to get more Strale in Honkai: Star Rail without emptying your wallet, these are the exact methods I used to hit E6 without spending a cent on his banners.
How to get more Strale in Honkai: Star Rail through limited event participation
The first and most cost-effective way to get Strale copies is to participate in the limited time event tied to his release. Every new 4-star character in Honkai: Star Rail comes with a themed event that gives out free copies of the character for completing simple tasks, and Strale is no exception. Limited events give 4-6 free Strale copies for most players if you complete all of the main and side tasks during the event’s three week run. That’s more than half of the copies you need to hit E6, all for doing content you’d probably play anyway.
These events usually include a mix of daily login rewards, challenge stages, and small open world tasks that take 10-15 minutes per day to complete. I skipped a few of the low-stakes daily tasks during Strale’s first run because I thought they didn’t give good rewards, and I ended up missing out on a free E2 copy that I had to wait six months to get again. So don’t skip any event tasks, even if they seem trivial at first glance. If you missed the initial run of Strale’s debut event, don’t panic: HoYoverse reruns old character events every 6-8 months for newer players, and you’ll get the same reward pool when it comes back.
Efficient Stellar Jade farming for limited banner pulls
If you want extra Strale copies beyond what the event gives you, you’ll need to pull for him on his limited rate-up banner. The good news is you don’t need to spend real money to get enough Stellar Jade for 20-30 pulls, which is almost always enough to get 2-3 extra copies of the rate-up 4-star. I’ve pulled every copy of Strale I own with free Stellar Jade, and I only had to save for about a month before his banner dropped to get enough for all the pulls I needed.
These are the most consistent free Stellar Jade sources you can farm with minimal effort:
- Daily training missions: 60 jade per day, no extra effort required if you already do your daily Calyx and Stagnant Shadow runs
- Weekly Simulated Universe runs: up to 300 jade per week from point rewards and weekly boss clears, plus extra jade for completing new difficulty tiers
- Forgotten Hall and Pure Fiction clears: 120 jade per star for first-time clears, plus recurring weekly rewards of 60-120 jade for holding higher tier positions
- Open world chests and hidden achievements: most new map updates add 1,000+ jade from hidden chests, exploration puzzles, and secret achievements you might have missed on your first playthrough
If you’re targeting how to get more Strale in Honkai: Star Rail, these jade sources will get you enough pulls to pick up extra copies faster than you think. Soft pity for 4-star characters hits at pull 10, and you have a 50% chance to get the rate-up 4-star on every 4-star pull. If you lose the 50/50 to a different 4-star, your next 4-star pull is guaranteed to be the rate-up character. That means you only need around 20 pulls to get at least one Strale copy, and 40 pulls to get two guaranteed copies if you have bad luck. I saved 32 pulls for his second banner run, and I got three extra copies, enough to push me from E3 to E6 without any extra work.
Prioritize Strale rate-up banner windows to avoid wasted pulls
One of the biggest mistakes I see new players make when they’re farming for a specific 4-star is pulling on the standard banner. The standard banner has more than 20 different 4-star characters and 15 4-star light cones in its pool, so your chance of pulling Strale there is less than 1% per pull. I wasted 12 pulls on the standard banner early on trying to get my first Strale copy, and I only got a duplicate light cone that I didn’t need for any of my characters. Don’t make that same mistake.
Strale will only be on rate-up once every few months, so plan your pulls around these windows instead of pulling on standard banner. When he’s on rate-up, he makes up 50% of all 4-star drops on that banner, which is a massive improvement over the standard banner odds. If you’re also interested in the 5-star character running on the same banner as Strale, that’s even better: you’ll accumulate Strale copies naturally while you save up for pity on the 5-star character. I pulled for Jingliu when she ran alongside Strale’s first banner, and I got two free Strale copies before I hit pity on Jingliu, no extra jade spent.
You can also check the official Honkai: Star Rail social media accounts 1-2 weeks before a new banner drops to see which 4-stars are on rate-up. That gives you plenty of time to save up extra jade if you see Strale is coming back soon. If you don’t have enough jade saved when his banner drops, you can usually farm 10-15 extra pulls from new event content and hidden exploration rewards during the banner’s three week run.
Claim free Strale copies from permanent event rerun shops
HoYoverse added a permanent event rerun system a few updates back that lets you go back and play old limited events even if you missed them when they first launched. When you play these reruns, you earn special event currency that you can spend in a dedicated shop, and one of the items you can buy is copies of the event’s featured 4-star character.
You can buy up to 2 Strale copies per rerun cycle from the event shop for free, no pulls required. The currency you need for these copies is really easy to farm too: you only need to play 2-3 of the event’s challenge stages per day for 3 days to get enough for both copies. I got my last two Strale copies from this shop when his event reran earlier this year, and I didn’t have to spend any Stellar Jade at all to get them.
Keep in mind that you can only buy these copies once per account, so if you already bought them during the initial event run, you won’t be able to buy them again. But if you missed the initial run, or you didn’t have enough time to farm all the currency the first time around, this is a perfect low-effort way to get extra copies without pulling. Strale’s E4 and E6 upgrades drastically boost his damage output, making him competitive even with paid 5-star ice DPS options, so it’s worth putting in the small amount of work to get those extra copies if you can.
Getting all of Strale’s Eidolons doesn’t have to be a grind that takes months or costs you real money. If you prioritize his limited event tasks, farm Stellar Jade consistently from free sources, only pull for him when he’s on rate-up, and claim copies from the event rerun shop, you can hit E6 in two or three of his banner runs at most. At the end of the day, the best tip for how to get more Strale in Honkai: Star Rail is to plan ahead and avoid wasting your resources on low-odds pulls that don’t move you closer to your goal. Once you get his max Eidolons, you’ll have one of the most versatile and powerful ice DPS characters in the game that will carry you through almost every piece of content for years to come.
